Hi everyone, I’m Lewin Raven. I was born in Ahuriri/Napier and grew up in Te Tai Tokerau/Northland. I’m Pākehā of predominantly Scottish decent. I have personal experience of disability as someone who experienced specific learning disabilities as a younger person.
I am the eldest of four children, and I am an uncle to eight. There are links in my extended family to Ngāti Kahungunu and Ngāpuhi, and to Samoa. I moved to Papaioea/Palmerston North in 2016 with my partner Briony, who is now a midwife in Dannevirke.
I am currently a postgraduate psychology student at Massey University. My work history includes:
- supporting people with cancer, mental health and addiction, and
- residential disability support.
I have an interest in social justice and believe People First’s notion of ’nothing about us, without us’. I think self-determination is pivotal in achieving a good life.
He waka eke noa: we’re all in this together!
